Field & Charges

electric field

A field is the region of space in which a body experiences a force as a result of the presence of some other body.

An electric field is a region of space in which a force acts on an object due to it’s electrical charge and the presence of some source that creates the field.

Conservation Of Charges

Conservation of charges: Charges cannot be destroyed nor created but can be transferred from one body to the other.

Charging refers to the process of changing the number of charge carriers and thus the total charge on the object.

  • Since protons are too large and too deep inside the atom for movement, electrons are usually transferred.

In an insulator, the electrons are strongly bonded to their nucleus, we can only remove or add electrons by rubbing(friction). The rubbing motion causes the surface electrons to be ripped off and transferred to another body.
