    Try this

Use the graph like an examiner would: scale first, best-fit judgment second, then extract the constant from a large triangle and a justified intercept read.

    Learn to

    • Choose sensible axis scales and spot plotting choices that waste graph space or hide trends.
    • Judge when a best-fit line or curve is appropriate instead of drawing through every point.
    • Extract a gradient, intercept, or derived constant with the correct physical interpretation.

    Exam transfer

    • Graph analysis
    • Constant extraction

    Governing idea

Gradient = Δy/Δx, with units equal to y-axis units divided by x-axis units. The intercept is the fitted value of y when x = 0.

    Model boundary

The datasets are deterministic and the best-fit choices are exam-focused. Real investigations may also require uncertainty bars, residuals, and repeated datasets.

    Avoid this trap

Use a large triangle on the best-fit line. Do not calculate the gradient from two adjacent raw points or force the line through the origin without a physical reason.

    How to explore

Build Paper 4 graph judgment: sensible scales, best-fit decisions, gradient/intercept extraction, and constant-from-graph logic.

Predict the outcome, change one variable at a time, then interpret the result. Completion records participation only and does not award mastery.
