Try this
Keep hints on for your first run, then retake without hints for exam pacing.
Learn to
- Read sleeve and thimble scales correctly for each case.
- Apply zero-error correction with the correct sign.
- Explain each reading step using short working notes.
Exam transfer
Governing idea
Reading = sleeve scale + thimble divisions × least count. For a 0.5 mm pitch and 50 divisions, the least count is 0.01 mm.
Model boundary
The model assumes correct ratchet pressure, no backlash, and a clean contact surface. Those effects can matter on a real micrometer.
Avoid this trap
Include a visible half-millimetre sleeve mark before adding the thimble reading; missing it shifts the answer by 0.50 mm.
How to explore
Train sleeve-thimble reading and zero-error correction in one focused session.
Predict the outcome, change one variable at a time, then interpret the result. Completion records participation only and does not award mastery.
